Description

A round floor pouf left undyed, so the natural cream of the goat hide carries the piece on its own. Hand-cut and hand-stitched in Marrakech, with a star medallion embroidered into the top panel in matching thread — the pattern reads as texture rather than contrast. Undyed leather ages more visibly than dyed: it warms and deepens with light and use, so the pouf looks different in a year. At 21 x 12 in (53 x 30 cm) it works as a footrest, a low seat, or a tray surface.

Construction

  • Undyed hide: no pigment is applied, so the colour is the leather's own. Expect more variation between panels than on a dyed pouf, and expect it to warm with age.
  • Tonal star embroidery: the top-panel medallion is worked in thread close to the leather colour, so it shows as relief rather than pattern.
  • Whipstitch seams: each panel edge is locked against the next with a raised cotton stitch running from the medallion down to the base.
  • Zippered base: fill it, firm it up, or refill it years later.
  • Marks show more readily: undyed leather takes a stain more easily than dyed. Keep it out of high-traffic spill zones, or seal it with a neutral leather protector before use.

Filled or unfilled

Choose Unfilled and it ships flat, which cuts freight cost considerably — fill it at home with shredded foam, fabric offcuts or old clothes. Loose polyfill and feathers are not recommended; they settle and the pouf loses its shape. Choose Filled and it arrives ready to sit on.

Care

Dust with a dry cloth. Blot spills immediately with a barely damp cloth and let it air-dry away from direct heat. Apply a neutral leather conditioner once or twice a year. Direct sunlight will darken undyed leather unevenly, so keep it out of a strong window.

About the craft

Moroccan leather poufs are still made by hand in the souk workshops — skins tanned traditionally, panels cut by eye, seams closed with a needle rather than a machine. Karchel buys direct from the artisans who make them and ships from Morocco.
