Description

Two matching round floor poufs, hand-cut and hand-stitched in Marrakech from full-grain tan goat leather. Each carries a hand-embroidered star medallion on the top panel in cream thread, with beaded whipstitch seams radiating out to the base. A pair works where one would look lost — flanking a sofa, either side of a bed, or pulled together as a single low table. Both measure 21 x 12 in (53 x 30 cm).

Construction

  • Sold as a pair: two poufs ship together, cut and stitched in the same batch so the leather tone matches closely.
  • Star medallion embroidery: a geometric motif worked by hand in cream thread on each top panel.
  • Beaded whipstitch seams: each panel edge is locked against the next with a raised cotton stitch that doubles as the decorative line work.
  • Zippered bases: fill each one, adjust the firmness, or top them up again years later.
  • Natural variation: hand-dyed leather shifts slightly in tone between panels and between the two poufs. That is characteristic of the craft, not a fault.

Filled or unfilled

Choose Unfilled and both ship flat, which cuts freight considerably on a two-piece order — fill them at home with shredded foam, fabric offcuts or old clothes. Loose polyfill and feathers are not recommended; they settle and the poufs lose their shape. Choose Filled and both arrive ready to sit on.

Care

Dust with a dry cloth. Blot spills straight away with a barely damp cloth and let them air-dry away from direct heat. Apply a neutral leather conditioner once or twice a year. Keep out of prolonged direct sunlight, which fades the dye.

About the craft

Moroccan leather poufs are still made by hand in the souk workshops — skins tanned traditionally, panels cut by eye, seams closed with a needle rather than a machine. Karchel buys direct from the artisans who make them and ships from Morocco.
