Reviews for this item
Description
A tightly woven cone shade in a herringbone straw pattern, finishing in the same loose natural fringe along the bottom edge as the rest of the range.
Construction
The tighter weave gives a warmer, more solid glow than an open-lattice shade. Reads well alone or in a cluster of two or three at staggered heights over a table.
About the weave
A few loose strands at the fringe or surface is normal on a handwoven natural-fibre shade and can be trimmed with scissors if you prefer a neater edge. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight, which will dry and pale the fibre over time.
Care
Dust with a dry, soft brush or the brush attachment on a vacuum, on a low setting. Keep it dry — natural fibre should not be washed, soaked or wiped with a damp cloth.
How it compares
Measured against the two things people usually weigh a handwoven fibre shade against. Categories, not brands.

How it is made
Woven by hand, strand by strand
Short chapters on how this shade is made, what it is made from and how it reaches you.
In the workshop

Woven strand by strand over a frame
Each shade is built by hand around a wire frame, one strand of natural fibre at a time. The weave is never perfectly even by design — that irregularity is what gives the light its texture, scattering it in bands rather than a flat, even glow.
Materials

Natural fibre, left undyed
The fibre is left in its natural colour rather than dyed or lacquered, so tone varies a little from batch to batch and will mellow further with age and light exposure. Wired for a standard E26 bulb, which is not included.
Ways to use it

It earns its spot more than one way
A handwoven shade does more than light a room.
- Alone over a table, centring a dining room or an entryway
- Clustered, three at staggered heights over a stairwell or bar
- Paired on a wall, flanking a mirror, headboard or doorway
- Unlit, where by day it reads as woven sculpture
