Cowhide Round Pouf — Handmade Moroccan Hair-on-Hide Patchwork Ottoman (21 in)

A round floor ottoman handcrafted from full-grain hair-on cowhide in Marrakech. Each pouf is assembled from hand-cut panels arranged in a natural tri-colour patchwork of rich browns, deep blacks and creamy whites. Because every hide is different, no two poufs carry the same pattern.

Construction and surface

• Works three ways: footrest, low seat, or accent table with a tray on top
• Hair-on cowhide: the hide keeps its hair, so each panel has its own texture and tonal pattern
• Hand-stitched seams: panels are cut to template and joined with blanket-stitch seams
• Concealed zip base: lets you fill and refill without unpicking any stitching

Tonal shifts between panels are natural to hair-on cowhide and reflect the individual hide. They are a characteristic of the material, not a defect.

Abdelilah, the leather artisan behind our poufs, hand-cuts and hand-stitches each one in Marrakech's Souk Talaa leather district. He selects individual hides for consistent thickness and pattern before cutting the panels to template and joining them with blanket-stitch seams — a technique that sews through both layers of hide at once, creating the visible raised ridge along each join and spreading load across the stitch rather than the leather itself. That construction is what gives the pouf its structure and its hand-finished character.

Filled or unfilled

Choose unfilled and the pouf ships flat and light, which keeps the freight cost down. Fill it at home with shredded foam, fabric offcuts or densely packed old clothing — materials that hold their shape under load. Avoid loose polyfill or feathers, which shift and flatten over time. Choose filled and it arrives ready to use, packed with polystyrene foam and cotton.

Care

Brush the hair-on surface gently to lift dust. Wipe the leather underside with a barely damp cloth — never soak it. Condition the leather two or three times a year so the hide does not stiffen. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight, which fades the hair over time.
